On March 22nd, 2021, the European Union sanctioned 11 individuals and 4 entities. But what does it mean to be sanctioned by the European Union? Luca De Cristofaro and Hannah Bludau, co-founders of the United Citizens of Europe, briefly explain the history of human rights as a central part of the EU’s foreign policy and the role of the sanctions.
